What the numbers mean. A single PSA value is rarely actionable on its own — temporary elevations come from prostatitis, recent ejaculation, vigorous exercise, or just biological variation. The TREND is what matters. Common (not absolute) thresholds for "discuss with urology": PSA velocity above 0.75 ng/mL per year on a baseline elevated value, or PSA doubling time under 12 months.
