About NEWS2 Score
Calculate the National Early Warning Score 2 (RCP 2017) — the UK standard for monitoring acutely unwell adults. Enter the 7 vital-signs parameters (respiratory rate, SpO2, supplemental O2 status, temperature, systolic BP, pulse, consciousness via ACVPU) and the tool scores each component 0-3, totals them, and gives the risk band (low / low-medium / medium / high) with the recommended observation frequency and escalation action. SpO2 supports both Scale 1 (most patients) and Scale 2 (hypercapnic respiratory failure, e.g. COPD with target 88-92%). Flags single-parameter score of 3, which triggers urgent review regardless of aggregate. For monitoring acutely unwell adults aged 16+; not validated in pregnancy, spinal injury, or paediatrics. Local protocols always override.
