About these instruments. PHQ-9 (Patient Health Questionnaire-9) and GAD-7 (Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7) are public-domain screening questionnaires validated in thousands of primary-care studies. Sensitivity and specificity for both are 80–90% at moderate cutoffs. They're commonly given at the start of an appointment so the clinician can focus the visit. Using them at home is a reasonable way to prepare for that appointment, or to track how you're doing across weeks. Not a substitute for a clinical evaluation.
