IV Drip Rate Calculator

Drop factor is on the tubing package. Macrodrip sets are 10, 15, or 20 gtt/mL — printed on the box. Microdrip is always 60 gtt/mL and is what you'll use for slow infusions (KVO, peds). For an infusion pump that takes mL/hr directly, you can ignore drop factor — set the pump to the rate the math gives you.

The math, for reference. gtt/min = (rate in mL/hr × drop factor in gtt/mL) ÷ 60. For volume-and-time mode, rate is just total volume ÷ total hours; the drop rate then comes from the formula above. Round gtt/min to the nearest whole drop — fractional drops aren't a thing.
