The DPI tiers. 300 DPI is the photography-industry "pro" benchmark — every pixel is smaller than the eye can resolve at normal viewing distance. 240 DPI is what magazine-quality offset printing runs at and is hard to distinguish from 300. 150 DPI is the floor for casual photo-book prints. Anything below ~120 will show visible pixels on a 5 × 7 or larger. Posters viewed from 6+ feet away can comfortably go down to 100-150 DPI because the eye can't resolve detail at that distance.
