About the codes. OBD-II DTCs follow the SAE J2012 standard. The first character is the system (P/B/C/U), the second digit tells you generic vs. manufacturer-specific (0 or 2 = generic; 1 or 3 = manufacturer), and the rest narrows it down to the subsystem and fault. This tool covers the most-looked-up generic codes — for OEM-specific codes, your scanner's database (or the service manual) is the right reference.
