Why convert JPG to AVIF?

AVIF is the latest-generation web image format. Compared to JPG at equivalent visual quality it's often 40-50 % smaller — the biggest single-file-size win since WebP showed up. Every current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari renders AVIF natively, so for site assets, PWAs, and CDN-served photos the conversion is essentially free bandwidth.

Caveats: AVIF encoding takes longer than JPG (you'll feel it on bigger batches — give it a moment), and tools outside browsers still lag — Word docs, ancient email clients, and some corporate uploaders don't handle AVIF. Stick with JPG when you're sending the file to a person rather than a webpage.
